Ahlene Thackrah Obituary
Thackrah, Ahlene Lang
Our sweet, loving mother and grandmother slipped away peacefully early October 2, 2015 at 98 years of age. Ahlene Katherine was born in Little Falls, NY on June 17, 1917 to William and Kathrina Lang. Ahlene grew up in Little Falls, attending business school after high school, then working as a legal secretary. She met our father Frank, they were married, and as our uncle once told us, they were "the best looking couple in town". Our mom and dad shared a long life together of 74 years. In 1944 Frank and Ahlene arrived in Phoenix when it was a much smaller town, then moved to Sunnyslope where they raised their family of four children. Our mother was a homemaker, loving and caring for her family above all else. She was a mom who baked cookies for school, sewed doll clothes, typed up term papers, and up until recently, knitted slippers every year for Christmas. Ahlene is remembered lovingly by her four children, Lynn Custer, Bill Thackrah (Marty), Jeanie Ghan (Bob), Janet Arant (Marty), 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday, October 12, 2015, followed by Rosary 7:00 pm, at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020. A Mass to honor Ahlene will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday October 13, 2015 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8620 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix 85008. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Saint Vincent de Paul Society at stvincentdepaul.net.
