Gibbs, Albert J.
76, of Fort Myers, FL, Mesa, AZ and Cape Vincent, NY, passed away Sept. 23, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born in Yonkers, NY on Mar. 21, 1937 to Albert S. Gibbs, DDS and Angela N. Kozakiewicz Gibbs. He had two half-sisters from his dads' previous marriage, the late Ester G. Frickman and Carol S. Conine. Albert's father passed away before he was born. He was raised in Yonkers by his mom and grandmother. He attended Sacred Heart H. S. in Yonkers, where he met his wife to be, Loretta Walsh. They were married in Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers on Jan. 25, 1958. Their first child, Robert, arrived in 1959, followed by Theresa (Boone) in 1961, Albert Jr. in 1962 and Thomas in 1964. In December of 1964, Albert packed up the family and moved to Commack, Long Island, New York. There he worked for companies like, Otis Elevator, APA Trucking, Michelin Tire and, the kids favorite, Nabisco Cookie Company. He was involved with Boy Scouts and was a member of Christ the King Church in Commack. After retiring, Al and Loretta enjoyed traveling to places like, Australia, Ireland, Germany, Hawaii and many of the other 49 states. He was a member of the Mesa Buckhorn Elks Lodge and enjoyed many of their events. Al's biggest joy was his grandkids, Bryce Gibbs, Joey Gibbs, Joey Boone, Alexander Gibbs, Shawn Boone, Kyle Gibbs, Natasha Gibbs and Nicholas Gibbs. In the past three years he was doubly blessed with two great grandkids, Parker Boone and Allerie Boone.
A funeral Mass was held Sept. 28, 2013 at Blessed Pope John XXIII Roman Catholic Church in Fort Myers. Albert's wish was to be cremated and that his ashes be scattered at the Grand Canyon in Arizona and the Saint Lawrence River, New York.
