Alma Jeanne Allen Obituary
Allen, Alma Jeanne (Olson)
88, a life-long resident of Phoenix, embarked on her final journey on February 13, 2016. Jeanne embraced that journey as she embraced life, securely trusting that God is love. She attended Creighton Elementary School where her father, Clyde Ottinger, was a teacher. Her mother, Pauline Ottinger (Gant) managed the household which also included her brother Wayne Ottinger. Shortly after her graduation from Phoenix Union High School, Jeanne married Wayne Wood from Phoenix. Their son Larry was born in 1948, and within nine months Jeanne became a young widow. In 1950, Jeanne married Leo Olson from Axtell, Kansas. Three sons were born to Jeanne and Leo in the years to follow: Lynn, Kent, and Jim. Jeanne and Leo raised their four sons in a home designed by Jeanne and built by Jeanne's father. Jeanne worked for many years managing the office of Leo's business, and both of them sacrificed greatly to provide opportunities and enriching experiences for their boys. She spent a decade nursing Leo's fragile health after a damaging heart attack, and once again became a widow in 1989. Seven years later, Jeanne again became a bride, marrying Jack Allen in 1996. A long-time friend, Jack was a retired police officer who had recently lost his wife of many years. Jeanne became stepmother to Jack's children Pam Brody (Allen) and Craig Allen. Jeanne and Jack supported one another during their golden years. In 2014, Jeanne became a widow for the third time. Still, her spirit remained gracious and kind. Her final years were spent at The Terraces in Phoenix, where she appreciated their excellent care. Jeanne was a lifelong member of First Southern Baptist Church of Phoenix, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Her life remains a wonderful example of steadfast love for God and neighbor. In addition to her brother, her children, and stepchildren, Jeanne is survived by four daughters-in-law: Tina, Faith, Carolyn, and Betty Olson. She was loved deeply by her children, their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a great collection of other relatives and friends, including a number of life-long friends. A visitation service will be held Friday, February 19 at 5:00-6:30 p.m. at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuaries Bethany Chapel, 710 W. Bethany Home Road.
