Not Time, Not Space... Not Even Death Will Ever Separate You From Your Mother. Ann passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on January 13, 2013, after a brief illness. Ann was born in Tariff, W. Va., on May 6th, 1921. She was the daughter of Alvis P. Morris and Bessie Vineyard Morris, of McAndrews, KY. She was predeceased by siblings, Alvis Peter Morris, and Inis M. Furgeson. Ann graduated from Pikeville College in Pikeville, KY, and became an elementary school teacher. During WWII, she traveled to St. Augustine, FL, where she met and married Joseph A. Cross, her husband for 22 years. They were blessed with two children, Joseph Jr., and Bess Dianne. Ann moved to Phoenix with her family in 1961 from Anniston, AL. She became interested in Interior Decoration, Fine Arts & Antiques, and began a course of study to become an expert. In addition to a keen business sense, she was blessed with a rare eye for beauty. Ann supplied many private clients with Fine Art, antiques, and oriental rugs during her years in business in the Valley. In 1964, she met the love of her life, C. R. Smith, and they were devoted for 49 years. Ann will always be remembered by her family and friends for her love of Life, her intellectual curiosity, her sense of fun, and her love of champagne and Viennese waltzes, which continue to inspire us. Ann leaves behind her husband, and her beloved children, Joseph A. Cross, Jr., of Columbus, Ohio, and Bess C. Nuzzo, of San Rafael, CA, and her adored grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Nuzzo, of Philadelphia, and Christopher J. Nuzzo (and wife, Ayako), of Denver.
