Wagner, Arthur
passed away on 5/15/113. Arthur John "Art" Wagner, 43, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away May 15, 2013 in Gilbert, Arizona. Art was born in West Bend, Wisconsin on January 10, 1970. He later moved to North Glen, Colorado and Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Permian High School where he became recognized nationally as a star defensive tackle for the Permian High Panthers team featured in the nonfiction book, Friday Night Lights. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Ottawa University in December 1998. He earned a Master's Degree in Special Education in 2002 and in Educational Leadership in 2003 from Northern Arizona University. He was pursuing his Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership from North Central University.
Art accomplished much and touched many lives in his short time on this earth. He was a caring, generous man who kindly gave everything he could. An important motto to him was "Every day we make it, we make it the best we can." He exemplified that motto with the service that he gave to education. He was an educator and administrator for over 20 years including working for Tempe Union High School District as a security guard, coach, teacher, athletic director, and assistant principal. He was the Executive Director of Support Services for Higley Unified School District where he worked for 4 years. He served on the AIA Executive Board as the 4A Conference Representative and was the AIA Executive Board President this year. He was one of 11 Arizonans who completed the exclusive national certification program for athletic administrators, "Master Athletic Administrator", from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. In 2010 he was awarded both the Arizona Citation award and National Citation award through NFHS. In 2012, he was awarded the AIAAA State Award of Merit and the Arizona School Administrators Distinguished Administrator Educational Services Award.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Kat Hughes of Gilbert, AZ, his mother Nancy Wagner of Granton, WI, his brother, Francis (Lorraine) Wagner of Abbotsford, WI, sister, Charlotte Wagner of Montrose, CO, and nieces Rachel, Kristin and Elizabeth Wagner-Abbotsford of WI and Riley Kashimba of Gilbert, AZ. A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 PM, Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts, 4132 E. Pecos Rd. Gilbert, Arizona.
