Barbara Ellen "Barb, Sally" Gooder Obituary
Gooder, Barbara Ellen (Barb, Sally)
age 59, long time Arizona resident, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away January 6, 2016 following a brief illness in Jacksonville, Florida, her place of residence. Preceded in death by her parents Francis R. and Barbara A. Gooder, Barb was born August 15, 1956 in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Barbara grew from a child who loved painting, ceramics, sewing and reading, into a brilliant artist who mastered any medium she pursued. A 1974 graduate of Mesa High School, she earned her Associate of Arts degree from Mesa Community College, and attended Northern Arizona University. She enjoyed working in the family business, El Desierto Ceramics. Other employment included: MCC, Pam's Place, Sandstone Creations, Ambassador and as Framing Manager with JoAnn's. She was married to Richard Hesse (1981-1985). A skilled boater who loved the ocean, Barbara and the love of her life, Lee Richardson (1942-2007), sailed down the Atlantic coast until dropping anchor in Florida. She was devoted to and treasured her many nieces and nephews, and gladly took care of many a family member in time of illness or need. She was fiercely independent and possessed a delightfully witty and dry sense of humor. Barb passionately collected books and all things arts and crafts. Deeply loved and dearly missed, Barbara is the eternal sister of Jackie (Deering) Raines, Ed and Sharon Kaiser, Deborah P. (Kaiser) and Joseph G. Taylor, Frank and Loretta (Scally) Gooder, Roxanna (Gooder) and Tim Walsh, Steve and Tina Gooder, and Daniel and Mary (Gomez) Gooder. Barbara is the cherished aunt of 27 nieces and nephews, 50 great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great nieces and nephews. A private family memorial is planned.
