Lawrence, Betty Donahue
age 74 of Mesa, AZ, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016. She was born in Clayton, MO to the late Joseph M. and Hilda A. Donahue on September 1, 1941. She joins her parents, brothers James M. and Joseph P. Donahue and nephew Donald Jackson in heaven. She is survived by her husband Richard Lawrence her daughters Debbie Campbell and Christina Clark (Joseph), granddaughter Rhiannon Campbell, stepson Rick Lawrence and step grandchild Ryan Lawrence. She is also survived by her bother Richard P. Donahue, sisters Eileen Donahue-Jackson and Patricia Donahue-Irvin and brother Jack Donahue. Betty grew up in Kirkwood MO and moved to Tempe Arizona in January 1964. She was very involved in her community and volunteered much of her time serving the community. She was a certified cosmetologist in the state of AZ and volunteered her time cutting the hair of the nuns at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. In the early years, Betty was very involved with the American Red Cross and was honored in 1965 for her outstanding service to the American Cancer Society. Most notably, she worked with Gregory Peck on the "April Crusade" which raised funds that were used to carry on the programs of the American Cancer Society in research, education and service. Betty, concerned with the safety of children walking to school, authored a petition and organized neighbors to build the still standing bridge crossing the US 60 at College Ave. where no bridge or crossing was planned for the then proposed highway. Betty became a Register Nurse in 1986 working in Oncology and Hospice at the Scottsdale Hospital Osborne. Betty was the President of the Home Owners' Association of her residential community in Mesa, AZ for many years. Betty was laid to rest February 3, 2016 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
