Billy J. Fitzgerald of Chandler passed away January 28, 2013 at the Hospice House. He was preceeded in death by his parents and daughter Susan. He was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, January 9, 1934 and spent his youth there. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky State University and taught social studies for a brief time. Afterwards, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years. In 1961, Bill and his wife moved to Arizona to make their home. Bill taught at Mesa High and Westwood; later, he served as assistant principal at Mesa High. He earned a Master's degree and a doctorate in educational administration from ASU. For 14 years he served as principal at Marcos de Niza in Tempe. His family and friends will miss him, his smile, and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Jane, his son Craig, and daughter-in-law Dawn, son Chad, daughter-in-law Jackie, grandson Nicholas Garcia, and granddaughter Lindsay Fitzgerald. Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Chapel, 1562 E Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ 85204. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Banner Gardens Inpatient Unit, who took great care of Bill during his final days. This address is 7231 E Broadway Road, Mesa.
