Thompson, Carmen D'Amore
Carmen was born on October 3, 1937. She was the first of two children of Americo and Sabina (nee Breglie) D'Amore. She grew up in the Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn, New York. She attended New Utrich High School, and graduated from Brooklyn College in 3 ½ years, with a degree in education. While in college she attended a mixer where she met her husband Joe. Eighteen months later they were married. After graduation she taught in the New York public schools, until they started a family. Upon the arrival of their first born, the family moved to Closter New Jersey. Two more children followed. In 1969 as the result of a transfer, the family moved to Mt. Prospect, Illinois, where they resided for thirty years. Upon retirement Carmen and Joe moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. They have lived in Scottsdale for the past 17 years. Carmen had many interests including reading, bridge, theatre, opera, and the symphony. She was also an excellent cook. Most of all Carmen loved her family, and enjoyed family get together. She had a near encyclopedic knowledge of classic movies. She was active in social events in the Legend Trail Community and was an active member of the Ladies Guild at Our Lady of Joy Church. People who know Carmen will miss her ever present smile. Among the comments that help describe Carmen is the statement from a friend that Carmen never made a derogatory remark about anyone. Friends will also miss her ever present smile, and gentle spirit. Carmen is survived by her husband of 56 years Joe, son Steven (Emma), daughter Christine (Keith), and son Michael (Deneeta), six grandchildren, brother Anthony and numerous nephews and nieces. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church in Carefree on June 15. Viewing will take place before the 10 AM Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to The St. Vincent de Paul Society or .
