Carolyn Joy Miller Obituary
Miller, Carolyn Joy
Carolyn Joy Miller, 81, of Phoenix quietly passed away at her home on October 28, 2016. She was born in Portland, Oregon to James and Frances Lynch on January 17, 1935. She attended Holy Cross elementary school and graduated from Immaculata Academy High School in Portland. At the age of nineteen she traveled to Phoenix where she met Clarence Miller, Jr. They were married on January 25, 1955. They had three children. Carolyn is preceded in death by husband Clarence and daughters Michele Hancock and Cathy Jo Sims. She is survived by her son, Joseph; sister Kathleen Randolph of Portland, Oregon; her brother, Dr. J. Michael Lynch of Nashville, Tennessee; and sisters Mary Alice Pieters of Portland, Oregon and Peggy Ragan of Poulsbo, Washington--as well as four grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carolyn's main vocation in life was being a housewife and mother. She adored her children. Her home was known and appreciated for its open doors, her welcoming hospitality, delightful sense of humor, and loving, encouraging manner. Many neighbors, acquaintances and friends came through those doors over the years. The Miller Christmas parties were legend: a home filled to overflowing with family and friends and great Mexican food. Carolyn was, indeed, a joy to be with and was a blessing to all who knew her. She had an outgoing personality, loved conversation, and readily made friends, even of complete strangers. She was an avid reader, had a great interest in current events, and loved talk radio. One of the biggest thrills of her life was a trip to Europe in 1994. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life at her home from 1:00 to 3:00 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, November 19, 2016.
