Chad N. Nelson was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on January 9, 1962. A graduate of Paradise Valley High School, he became a talented machinist, builder of engines, and businessman. An avid lover of cars, planes, motorcycles, and boats, Chad was a gifted pilot and race car driver; a two-time National Champion in the NASA Club Racing field. He recently participated in the "Wings and Wheels Air Show" in Eagle, Colorado. Chad had a passion for life. He frequently would tell others: "Live every day as if it was your last." His passion for life was equally matched by his care of others. He shared his talents and gifts with everyone, including family, friends, and strangers. On September 21st, 2013, Chad was fatally injured when his UH-1 (Huey) helicopter crashed on his way home from an air show in Sedona, Arizona. His loss creates a huge void in the hearts and lives of people he touched everywhere. Chad leaves behind his girlfriend/companion, Gia Simon; father, Robert N. Nelson; Stepfather, Robert B. Ravenscroft, Sr.; mother, Gretchen Ravenscroft; sister Stephanie Nelson; brother, Scott Nelson, and step-brother, Robert B. Ravenscroft, Jr. Other surviving members of his family include numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Memorial Service to celebrate Chad's life will occur on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at The Spirit In the Desert Retreat Center, 7415 E. Elbow Bend Road, Carefree, Arizona. The time of service is 6:30 pm.
