Holmgren, Claire Rakeman
passed away on October 4th, peacefully at the age of 84. She was born on June 4th 1931 in Pembroke Robeson County , N.C. to Jessie & Purcell Godwin. Claire was one of 6 siblings, her sister Marie and brother Junior preceded her in passing. She is survived by her 3 remaining siblings , her sister Chris Lockee, and her 2 brothers AC Godwin and Tom Godwin and her two children, Kristine Rakeman Istwan and Raymond Edward Rakeman along with her many nieces and nephews. Claire was a true southern bell, a women of strong faith, giving, friendly, thoughtful and kind to all she met. She was known to have an infectious laugh and she laughed often. Claire's smile would light up a room. She exemplified Class, she was as beautiful a person on the inside as she was on the outside. At the age of 18 Claire went to work for the phone company, at that time it was Mountain Bell, by the time she retired it had became AT & T. Claire married twice, first to Edward A. Rakeman they were married for 23 years. Some years after she and Ed divorced she met Allan J. Holmgren at North Phoenix Baptist Church and they remained together for almost 30 years. Allan passed in 2011. Claire loved music, gardening, singing in the Choir, Fashion, but mostly Claire loved her family and friends. Please celebrate her life with us on November 14th at 1:00pm in the chapel at North Phoenix Baptist Church 5757 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, Az. 85012. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to North Phoenix Baptist Church. Claire was truly a blessing to all who knew her, she will be eternally missed. Godspeed.
