Melton, Clarence Brooks
88, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on April 10, 2015. A native of Tarboro, NC, he was the son of the late Clarence Brooks Melton, Sr. and Neta Collins Melton. As a teen, he moved to Newport News, VA where he met his future wife, Lillian Benson. He served in the Army during WWII spending time in Japan with the occupation forces and after his discharge, he returned to Virginia where the couple married in 1947. They moved to California shortly afterwards and settled into their new life where he began his long career with Federal Civil Service retiring from the U.S. Navy Public Works Center as Director of Maintenance. His favorite hobbies were playing poker, golf and bass fishing with his family. He took many annual fishing trips to the High Sierras in California with his son and his father and continued to golf into his eighties. Clarence and Lillian celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary the month before her death in 2007. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Bill Collins and James Melton, his sister, Madalyn Green and his step-mother, Jessie Melton. He is survived by his daughter, Janis Himel (George), his son, Neal Melton (Kiersten) and his grandson, Carson Brooks Melton. A devoted and loving father and grandfather, he will be loved, missed and forever in their memories. As he requested, a small private burial was held and he was laid to rest next to Lillian. "Together Always".
