Cynthia Ann "Cindy" Ganter Obituary
Ganter, Cynthia (Cindy) Ann née Shaw
of Paradise Valley, Arizona, died of cancer on December 21, 2015, at age 85. Cindy was born April 29, 1930, in the Bronx, New York, to Dorothy Shaw and the impressionist artist and Tiffany & Co. engraver designer, Sydney Dale Shaw. She attended St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York, where she met her future husband, E. Lawrence (Larry) Ganter, M.D. After seeing Larry through McGill University Medical School in Montreal, Quebec, cold hands drove them first to Los Angeles and then to Arizona, where they lived out their lives in warmth and comfort. "It's a dry heat." She is survived by her children, Laura Ganter O'Brien (Tim Crisp) of Madison, Wisconsin, and Cara Lee Ganter of Newport, Oregon; her grandchildren, Jackie O'Brien, Jake O'Brien, Stephanie Dodt, Alex Dodt and Jordan Day; her beloved brother, Dale Shaw; and a host of dear friends including "The Lunch Bunch." She was predeceased by her husband, Larry, in May 1994. Cindy was famous for her crossword puzzle acumen and her generosity in helping others to find the right answers. Supportive. Kind. Gentle. Mom… a three-letter word for priceless. A private memorial luncheon for her family and close friends will be held on January 30, 2015. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Clay Place, 46 Osborne Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06855.
