Daniel James Keyack Obituary
Keyack, Daniel James
Dan was born in Coal Township (Shamokin), Pennsylvania February 19, 1926 to Isabella and Anthony Keyack. His brothers were Francis and Ed - both deceased. After graduating from high school he was anxious to enter the Army Air Corps but was only 17 and much to his chagrin, had to wait until his 18th birthday. His service led him to flight school as an aviation cadet in Biloxi, Mississippi and then Oklahoma where his love of flying never ended. He received an honorable discharge and was decorated with an American Theater Campaign Victory Medal. At the encouragement of his mother, he enrolled at Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland in September 1946 where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree cum laude in June 1950. After he graduated, he became a science teacher in Connecticut, but soon discovered he could not afford a family on teacher's pay. He entered the semiconductor industry and spent years working with major companies throughout the US and traveled to Europe, Korea, Japan and Brazil for them. He was an ardent problem solver and a stickler for graphing data. He was married to Angela (deceased) and had seven children. He was most proud of the fact that all seven children graduated from Catholic school and four of them graduated from ASU. Dan and Louise married in 1984. They had a storybook marriage and traveled to many fantastic places - Europe, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, New York, Florida and Niagara Falls to mention a few, with their favorite being Zermatt at the base of the Matterhorn. On a trip to New York, they went to Ellis Island where they located his grandparent's name when they immigrated to America from Poland. Dan is survived by his wife, Louise; 6 Children: Betsy Keyack (Ken Fong), Danny ((Esther), Phil, Nancy (John Rawls), Mary Keyack (Bob Maizer), and Mike (Laura Love); 2 Stepchildren: Karen Marks, and Jon Marks; He was predeceased by son Jerry and stepchildren Terry Marks and Patricia Marks. He is also survived by sister-in-law Marian Keyack and sister-in-law Gayle Satterblom (Paul); 21 grandchildren: Kristine, Kara, Mikey, Matt, Chris, Tina, Katherine, Kris, Angela, Brenda, Amanda, Jesse, Reyna, Drew, Sarah, Clint, Michelle, Yvette, Raquel, Dylan, and Greg and also 18 great-grandchildren. He was an avid reader of non-fiction and before he had COPD, he loved woodworking and was meticulous making outstanding art pieces. Although golf was not really a priority in his life, he did something that not many people can brag about - he got a hole in one at Sun Lakes Country Club. Dan passed away Sept. 1, 2016, after several years of battling numerous health problems. He is finally at peace in heaven with our Heavenly Father and leaves behind his grieving family and friends with outstanding memories of our life with him. A Memorial Service will be held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Rd., Chandler on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m. It was Dan's wish to have his body donated to Science Care for medical research. In lieu of flowers, please donate to in Dan's name.
