Daniel Richard Conrad Obituary
Conrad, Daniel Richard
Daniel Richard Conrad, passed from this life on February 19, 2016 in Chandler, AZ. In life, Dan was known and loved by all for his charm, wit, humor, "can do" attitude, skilled craftsmanship, loving discipline, outstanding work ethic, and exceptional skill at swatting flies. He was born on October 19, 1928. He was the youngest of four children born to George and Mildred Conrad. His parents and siblings, George (Bud) Conrad, Ruth Conrad Ellis and Laura Conrad all preceded him in death. Dan grew up in Delhi and attended St. Dominic's Catholic School. At the age of 15 he started his first job at American Airlines where he worked for 44 years when he retired at the age of 59. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Rosemary Miller, at St. Aloysius Church in Sayler Park. During their very happy 54 years of marriage, they lovingly raised 8 children, and lived in Ohio, Kentucky (where Dan built his own house), Illinois, and Arizona. Being a devout Catholic, wherever they lived Dan became very active in the church. His life remains a wonderful example of steadfast love for God and neighbor. He also loved to travel, and enjoyed many vacations, ranging from camping trips when his children were young, to cruises and trips to Europe later in life. He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, and is survived by his children, Sharon (Jim) Civitello, Sandy (Mitch) Keleman, Sue (Bonnie) Castelletti, Sally Donovan, Dennis (Kasey) Conrad, Tim (Suzi) Conrad, Dan (Janet) Conrad, Charlotte (Mike) Mester, 19 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Dan's grandchildren have many fond memories of him including picking oranges from the trees in his back yard for fresh orange juice; scaring kids by popping out his dentures; his ability to bark like a dog; playing the organ and singing old-time songs; his love of wine, M&Ms, and gummy bears; his jokes; his Hawaiian dress shirts, and his use of the phrase "God love it" when consoling a crying grandchild. The way he would say it with such love and empathy just made you feel better. A funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew's Church in Chandler, AZ on Friday, 2/26/16 at 11AM. Memorial gifts may be mailed to Catholic Inner-city Schools Education Fund, 100 E. 8th Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202 or made online at cisefund.org.
