David Douglas Sloan Obituary
Sloan, David Douglas
72, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on November 3, 2016, following a brief battle with cancer. Born May 9, 1944 in Gallup, New Mexico, to Charles David and Iona Lee Sloan, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1949. Dave attended North High School, followed by Grand Canyon College (now University), where he studied Business. He put his college career on hold to serve in the Army, during which time he also got married, and served a tour in Panama. After completing his tour, Dave and Sharon returned to Phoenix where he completed his education. His career in banking began at Valley National Bank, where he was stationed at the Chandler branch, then served in branches located in Cottonwood, Sedona and ultimately returned to Phoenix. In addition to Valley National, Dave held positions of increasing significance at Arizona Bank and Security Pacific. His interests and capabilities also led him to positions at Baptist Retirement Center in Youngtown, and later the Baptist Foundation of Arizona. He ultimately concluded his professional career as a branch manager at M&I Bank. During the early stages of his retirement, he served as a financial consultant for Laird & Associates. Dave was active in his church, loved to entertain by playing the piano, and if he wasn't coaching his kids would move mountains to attend their sporting events. In his later years, his favorite activity was to take one (or some) of his nine grandchildren fishing out on the lake. And throughout his life, maintaining a perfectly manicured yard and leading the neighborhood in impressive Christmas light displays were always at the top of his priority list. His quick wit and friendly smile will be terribly missed, but he leaves behind a legacy of faith and loyalty that will endure. Dave is survived by his loving wife Sharon of 50 years; sons Chad (Samantha) and Steven (Cindy), and daughter Leanna Machado (John); nine grandchildren: Kiana, Kaleb, Sarah, Jacob, Lily, Jonah, Benjamin, Andrew and Ethan; and his sister Donna Reid (Dan). There will be a service to celebrate Dave's life on Saturday, November 19th, starting at 10 AM. The service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church, located at 3100 W. Camelback Rd / Phoenix, AZ / 85017, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall located on church grounds. Appetizers will be provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be submitted to the missions committee of First Southern Baptist Church of Phoenix, or .
