Beihl, David Edwin
93, of Tempe, was welcomed into the loving arms of his savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 10, 2016. He was reunited with his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ann (Williams) Beihl, who passed in 2006. Predeceasing him were his parents, Edwin Dwent and Edna Bell (Emery) Beihl; his sister, Ruth Baker; his son-in-law, Edwin Adams; and his infant grandson, Kyle Beihl. David was born July 26, 1923, in Wheeling, West Virginia. He moved to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in 1930, and lived there until moving to Tucson in 1963 before moving to the Valley of the Sun in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. David graduated from Dartmouth College in 1946 and was commissioned as an ensign and served in administrative capacities on several ships. He left active duty in the Navy after the Korean Conflict and joined the Naval Reserve. He was the commanding officer of the training center in Johnstown. He was promoted to the rank of commander before assuming the commanding officer duties of the second-largest division in the Eleventh District in Tucson. David retired from the Naval Reserve in 1983. As a civilian, he was an insurance claims adjuster, an insurance salesman and an industrial storeroom employee. David enjoyed volunteering as a registrar for voters, a poll worker for elections and Republican Party precinct committeeman. He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian church, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School teacher. David and Elizabeth Ann started the Prayer Partner ministry at Grace Community Church in Tempe. They helped deliver Meals on Wheels. David is survived by two daughters, Kathy Adams of Tempe and Susan (Richard) Morgan of Chandler; two sons, Gregory (Pamela) Beihl of Tempe and Roger (Diane) Beihl of Las Vegas, Nevada; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandhildren and four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Saler of San Diego, California; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for David will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E. Southern Ave., Phoenix. David will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday Aug. 19 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 2540 W. Baseline Road, Mesa. The family would like to thank the staffs of Garden Court at Westchester Senior Living and Eldercare of Tempe for the care given to David. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, Florida, 32862. Arrangements were handled by Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Phoenix.
