David G. Jones Obituary
Jones, David G.
63, of San Diego passed away on November 11th 2016. David was born in Danville, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1952. He attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. He worked with the Arizona Department of Public Safety Hazardous Materials Unit, Rural Metro Fire Department, and the City of Scottsdale Police and Fire Departments where he was an Emergency Management Coordinator and proudly managed the Fire Support Program, which was especially dear to his heart. On May 2, 1981, David married Nancy. In 1983, 1987, and 1998 respectively, he welcomed his children. He shared his birthday with his youngest son and absolutely loved it. David was devoted to his family and adored his nieces, nephews and their children. He was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams included the Arizona Cardinals and Diamondbacks and the Penn State Nittany Lions. He enjoyed reading, Broadway Musicals and the cover of the New Yorker Magazine which he waited impatiently for each month. For many years he volunteered with the Scottsdale Coronado High School Dance Program. He was a meat and potatoes kind of guy who enjoyed scuba diving and sailing. He was very skilled at spatial reasoning and would apply this talent to tasks such as arranging furniture and loading the dishwasher. He was especially fond of tootsie rolls and a good joke. David loved telling stories, was a calm presence in times of trouble and would offer a listening ear to anyone who needed one. He was not a religious man but he did spend every Sunday worshipping St. Peter the Pillow. He raised his children to seek out the good in every person, laugh at the absurdity of life and value their friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. David is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Erin Gage (Casey); his sons Douglas and Nicholas; his grandson Finley Gage; his sister, Jeanie Lumpkin (Skee); and a large and devoted extended family. He is predeceased by his parents George and Grace Jones. A memorial service is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on December 4 at the Hall of Flame Fire Museum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David's name to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation by visiting www.wffoundation.org.
