David Milton Earl Obituary
Earl, David M.
85, of Mesa, AZ, died Nov. 24, 2015. He leaves a large, close family. David was quick with a compliment, steadfast in his support of family and friends and dogged in his love of all flying machines. Don't get him started! He was the fourth of six children born to James Louis and Lilian Florence Earl. In 1931, his family settled in Everett, WA. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years starting in 1948. He was an airplane mechanic and retired as a staff sergeant. Then he worked for Boeing and GTE. To put it mildly, he was an avid airplane enthusiast. He volunteered at the Seattle Museum of Flight's restoration center. With the Civil Air Patrol in Everett and Mesa, he flew searches and achieved the rank of major. David also volunteered at the Arlington (Wash.) Fly-in and Air Show. In the early 90s, he moved to Mesa, where he met Jean Travis of Mesa. He is survived by her, and six children and their families: Marsha Miller of Highlands, CA.; Dianne Eckhart, of Handcock, ME; Tony Earl of Seattle; Carl Earl of Astoria, OR; Shelley Kerr of Lake Stevens, WA and Kathy Earl of Mill Creek, WA. He has seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His siblings are Alice Knight, the late Jim Earl, Sid Earl, Allen Earl and Sylvia Hendrickson. A celebration of life is 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at New Generation Church, 1010 S. Ellsworth Road in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, a donation in David's name can be made to: CAF Arizona Wing Museum, American Airpower Heritage Foundation, 2017 N. Greenfield Road, Mesa, AZ 85215, Attention: Herb Zinn; or the Seattle Museum of Flight, Attn: Development Office, 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle, WA 98108. David liked flowers. He LOVED airplanes!
