Diane Elaine Taylor Obituary
Taylor, Diane (Elaine) Smith
Diane, 72, of Phoenix AZ, passed away peacefully in her home on August 9, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Diane's life revolved around her family, her friends and her faith. She was born in Long Beach, CA and moved to Arizona when she was eight. She was a graduate of Central High School and then ASU, where she received a Masters of Education. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority where she served as President and was also involved in many other campus organizations. She returned to ASU in 1983 and received a Master's in Counseling, which led her to start a private practice in career consulting where she devoted her life to helping others. Diane was full of life and love and was known by all for her kindness and giving spirit. She volunteered countless hours through many organizations including over 40 years with VNSA, many years with Friends of the Arizona Cancer Center and her beloved church, PVUMC. She absolutely loved spending time with her family and friends and she shared a special closeness with each and every one of them. She enjoyed playing bridge and poker, traveling and planting beautiful flowers. She loved attending lunches, dinners, plays, symphonies, movies, book club, prayer group and any activity related to her grandchildren. Diane was "Grammy Dee" to her eleven grandchildren who were the absolute love of her life. Time spent with her grandchildren was precious and included putting on elaborate Christmas plays, "Grammy Dee Nights," and her famous pumpkin bread-making parties. Diane is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Elaine Smith. Survivors include her devoted children Lana (Brad), Jill (Ray), Eric (Kelly) and her grandchildren, Tristan, Brendan, Matthew, Katie, Tessa, Ryan, Jules, Riley, Tori, Alex, and Drew, along with many wonderful friends whom she considered to be family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UAF Friends of the Arizona Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4696, Scottsdale, AZ 85261, or Volunteer Non-Profit Service Association (VNSA), P.O. Box 32533, Phoenix, AZ 85064. A memorial service will be held at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church at 4455 East Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 4:00pm. We ask that you wear bright colors in memory of Diane's bright and happy spirit. www.greenacresmortuary.net
