Berlyn, Donald "Don" Evons
82, of Phoenix passed away August 15, 2016. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years Cecelia, three sons: Donald (Katie Martin) of Flagstaff, Daniel (Tammy) of Kalispell, MT, and Davis of Phoenix, a daughter, Kathleen (Leo Kenefic) of Catonsville, MD. He also left behind, ten grandchildren: Paul, Angela, Danielle, Aaron, Michael, Infinity, Zachary, Stephen, Alicia, and Daniel, and seven great-grandchildren: Christopher, Laura, Noah, Micah, AJ, Hunter, and Levi. Don was born March 2, 1934, in Peabody, MA and raised in Salem, MA. Upon marrying Cecelia in 1955 they honeymooned in Arizona and never left. He was an avid outdoors-man who loved the Arizona deserts and mountain ranges. Don began his career as a photographer, where he managed photo shops for several years before going into the outdoor business, first as a manager of High Adventure and later his own business venture, The Trailhead. Don not only provided the outdoor community with the best outdoor gear, he also taught backpacking and outdoor living/survival skills courses and was an expert on the back-country where he spent much of his life hiking and camping throughout Arizona. Later in his career, he used his knowledge and expertise of Arizona to start a tour business, Trailhead Tours, where tourists from around the world were given a look at our beautiful state and provided a wealth of information from the flora and fauna to the history of Arizona. Upon his retirement, he worked briefly at Circle Records where he indulged his love of classical and jazz music. Don was known to say he never worked a day in his life because he always loved what he was doing. Services and a Celebration of his Life will be held at The Desert Botanical Gardens, Webster Auditorium, 1201 N. Galvin Parkway, Phoenix, AZ at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday August 20, 2016.
