Donald Frederick Taska Obituary
Taska, Donald F.
94, of Tempe passed away on October 22, 2016. Known as Don to his friends, Dad to his children and Pop to his grandchildren, he was born June 8, 1922, in Elkhart, Indiana to Fred and Blanche Taska. While most of his family went into the railroad industry, Don took a different path, becoming the first from either side of his family to graduate from high school, and ultimately, the first to graduate from college. He was drafted into the Army Air Forces and served as an armorer for fighter aircraft during World War II. Discharged in 1946, he began a long distance romance with a pretty dark haired tomboy from Dayton, Ohio that he'd met on a blind date. Don and Ann were married in 1949, and along the way raised four children: John, Carol, Philip and Jean. The children grew and married, and Christmastime became a family celebration as the five grandchildren: Jennifer, Hans, Eric, Sarah and David brought a child's wonder to the holidays. Don is preceded in death by Ann, who passed away in August 2014, and son David, who died much too young as an infant, in 1952. He is survived by his four children, five grandchildren and their spouses, and the memory of his glorious, mischievous, loving blue eyes. Husband, father, grandfather, veteran and representative of The Greatest Generation, he is irreplaceable. A memorial service in Phoenix will be held at a future date, and Don and Ann will be interred together in the family section of Centerville Cemetery in Centerville, Ohio.
