Dora Frances Marie Peden Obituary
Peden, Dora Frances Marie née Pitagora
passed away peacefully in her Phoenix home early in the morning of August 29, 2016. Frances was born, the oldest of 6 children, in Detroit in 1923 to Antonio and Emelia Pitagora. She moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in her early 20s, and spent the last decades of her life in Flagstaff and Phoenix, Arizona. As a young woman in Detroit she worked in a munitions factory for the war effort. Once in California she worked as a secretary and in other office jobs. In the 1960s she became self employed as the owner/operator of a candy and ice cream store in the Bay Area, a family-operated fast food restaurant in North Lake Tahoe, and a hotel/bar/restaurant in Northern California. Frances loved having her family and loved ones around her and adored her grandchildren and great-grandsons. She especially shined in the last few years when family and friends gathered outdoors in Phoenix to celebrate her April birthdays. At her passing, family friends all have stories of her wit and humor, her love of children, and her love for her family. She is survived by her brother Richard Pitagora (Lynne); daughters Cynthia Peden, Roberta Motter (Alan), and Connie Taylor; her grandchildren Emily Dale, Cydney Gingras, Jessica Walker Schuler (Mike), Ann-Marie Bringhurst (Adam), and Max Motter; great-grandsons Natty and O'Connor Bringhurst; and nieces and nephews. A Catholic mass and life celebration will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Luther Life Center on the Beatitudes Campus, 1610 W. Glendale Av., Phoenix, Arizona, 85016. Frances' ashes will be interred at the Calvary Cemetery in Flagstaff, Arizona. Memorial gifts may be made to Smile Train in the name of "Frances Peden" at support.smiletrain.org/goto/frances.
