Dorothea Winberg Obituary
Winberg, Dorothea
Mary Dorothea Winberg, 97, a resident Phoenix, died of natural causes on May 21, 2015. Dorothea was born in Aurora, Missouri, and moved to Phoenix in the 1950's. She earned her B.A. from the University of Arizona and her Masters and Doctorate degrees from Arizona State University. Dorothea was a past president of the Arizona Home Economics Association and sponsored many, many student teachers for which she was honored by Arizona State University's Department of Education. After teaching for several years in the Murphy School District, she was hired by Scottsdale School District and taught Home Economics for 20 years at Kaibab Elementary School and Ingleside Middle School. During her tenure at Kaibab, she began dating her friend and colleague, Roger Winberg, who was the Industrial Arts teacher. They were happily married for nineteen years, spending their summers in a cabin on Lake Kabetogema in northern Minnesota. Dorothea loved to travel, entertain and play slot machines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and many friends. She is fondly remembered by many former students and student teachers.
