Burke, Earl G. Sr.
age 84, of Scottsdale, AZ and formerly of Columbus, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 at his home in Scottsdale. A native of Latrobe, PA, Earl was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War serving in the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and fought and was injured in the battle of Pork Chop Hill. Earl retired as Master Brewer-Plant Manager for Anheuser-Busch, Inc. after a 45 year career. In leisure, Earl loved the ocean and he and his high school sweetheart of 58 years traveled extensively in the Pacific Northwest on their boat the "Sandpiper." Earl is survived by his wife Rose Marie, of Scottsdale; sons and daughters-in-law: Earl and Sheri , of Powell and their children Thadius O'Connor, Michael O'Connor and Ashley and Jeramy Idle; and David and Rhonda Burke, of Powell and their son Jackson Burke. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00pm. Thursday at the Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, OH 43065 (614)-792-1471. (The funeral home is located on W. Olentangy St./Powell Rd./SR 750 ¼ mile east of Sawmill Parkway. Because of construction, please use Sawmill Parkway when coming to the funeral home and avoid the Powell Road/SR 315 intersection.) Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am. Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, OH 43065 with The Reverend James Black, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Boy Scouts of America in Earl's memory.
