Person, Elizabeth "Ann"
A girl with crystal blue eyes and an enchanting smile grew up in a logging camp in the hills of Oregon. She developed a multimillion dollar company, Stretch & Sew, that revolutionized the sewing industry. Ann was a powerhouse of creativity with an entrepreneurial magic. She was a born teacher with unparalleled enthusiasm and energy. She was at home teaching sewing, cooking, gardening, painting and card playing. She could electrify any audience with her sheer presence. Ann left an indelible stamp on everything she touched. Born December 21, 1924 in Portland, Oregon, Ann studied art at the University of Oregon and was encouraged to pursue her dreams and develop her creativity by her parents. In 1944, she was honored to join the Women's Army Corp (WAC) as an Occupational Therapist teaching art to soldiers on Staten Island. In 1977, Ann won the very prestigious Horatio Alger Award. She was inducted into the American Sewing Guild's Home Sewing Hall of Fame in 2004. Elizabeth "Ann" Person died of natural causes on August 10th surrounded by family and dear friends. The memories of summers on the farm with Grandma Ann rubbing backs, humming her lullaby, Swedish pancakes, raspberry jam, horseback rides, yodeling and running the river will be cherished. She loved her husband's four children, fourteen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family rests peacefully knowing that Ann is dancing with Bob her cowboy in Heaven.
