Kinzer, Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Bowyer)
86, died Friday, July 15, 2016 at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, AZ after a brief illness. She leaves 3 children, Sandra Vandertulip (husband Richard Vandertulip), Karen Kinzer and David Kinzer (wife Jenny Ford); 2 grandsons Richard Vandertulip, Jr. and Beau Vandertulip and many relatives and close friends. Her son, Bruce Kinzer and parents Charles and Olive Bowyer preceded her in death. Born in Minneapolis, MN in 1930, she lived on a farm in Minnesota until she moved to Alameda, CA at age 14. She graduated from Alameda High School, attended the University of the Pacific and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California. After moving to Southern California for a number of years, she and the family moved to Tempe, AZ in 1963. She obtained her Master's Degree in Social Work in 1970 from Arizona State University. Betty worked for Samaritan (now Banner) Health System Hospitals for many years. She made many friends through her workplace and raised her 4 children. After traveling in Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, South America, Africa, the United States, New Zealand, and Australia, she moved to Friendship Village in Tempe in 2012. At Friendship Village she was active in Spanish classes, being an area representative and attending plays. Her death leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Village, 2645 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ 85282 in the Skirm Auditorium at 2 PM, Saturday, July 30, 2016 to celebrate her life.
