Elizabeth Swanson Obituary
Swanson, Elizabeth Anne
Elizabeth Anne Swanson was born December 21, 1923 in Eagleville, Missouri and died in Phoenix on December 16, 2015 after a massive stroke. She loved her hobby of photography and took many pictures of family, friends, and pets. Other hobbies were traveling, gardening, and sewing. She had no plans to teach, but shortly after WWII had ended she had a phone call from the School Superintendent in our home town who was in dire need of teachers. She did not have a degree to teach, but worked on it during her summers. Most of her career was general business at the high school level. She moved from the Kansas City area for the warmth of Phoenix. By means of correspondence and phone calls, Beth was hired to teach at Peoria High School. After that she taught at South Mountain and then at Trevor Browne. This in addition to some time in Pleasant Hill, Missouri before moving to Phoenix added up to 40 years. And she didn't stop there. After she retired from teaching, she taught ESL for ten years and later took on a part-time job working as a secretary to a book publisher for another ten years. She was active in two camera clubs (not at the same time), the Phoenix Scottsdale Schools Retired Teachers' Association, Delta Kappa Gamma (a teachers' sorority), and VASA (a Swedish Lodge). Beth and her sister made many trips abroad - once to the Orient and several times to Europe, with the final trip being to Russia. After reaching ninety, she was finally persuaded to slow down. She will be missed by all who knew her having touched so many lives. She is survived by a sister, Gloria J. "Kit" Swanson. Services will be held Monday, December 28 at 12 PM at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix, AZ with visitation beginning at 11 AM. www.ALMoore-Grimshaw.com
