Sawyer, Elsie Evelyn
age 89, passed away on April 28, 2016. She was born on the family farm near Sawyer, N.D. on Sept. 12, 1926 to parents Fred and Johanna Beuchler. She met the love of her life at the N.D. state fair. As a 4H member she was showing a black angus in front of the grandstands, where her husband to be, Doug Sawyer, was playing in a h.s. band. They later married and had two children, Guy Sawyer and Sharon Mayes. They lived in N.D. for five years prior to moving to Eugene, OR. Elsie worked at Graves Music, The Eugene Clinic, and Jones Veneer and Plywood. In 1963 the family moved to Scottsdale, AZ. where she was employed for 20 years as the secretary to the Dean of Fine Arts at A.S.U. In 1979 she was awarded Employee of the Year at A.S.U. In 1983 Elsie and Doug retired to Pine, AZ becoming immersed in community activities and friendships. In 2006 they returned to Phoenix enjoying being close to family. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry and Benny Beuchler and husband Doug Sawyer. She is survived by a son Guy Sawyer, daughter Sharie Sawyer, 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Elsie will always be remembered for her caring, generous spirit and the loving devotion to her family. No service is planned at her request. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to .
