After a protracted battle with cancer, Florencio 'Floyd' Eloy Sanchez died on September 22, 2016 in Glendale, AZ at the age of 66. He leaves behind his loving wife Roma; children Claudine Wessel (Kelly) and Jason Sanchez (Sarah); and grandchildren: Liddie Wessel, Noah Sanchez, and Brody Sanchez. Florencio was born on August 19, 1950 in Albuquerque, NM, to father Manuel Serna Sanchez and mother Maria Jesusita 'Susie' Barela. He graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1969 and had a long, rewarding career with a telephone company until his retirement. Florencio married Roma Jean Lovato on November 7, 1970 and a job opportunity led to the family relocating from New Mexico to Arizona in 1984 where the family has made their home since. Florencio is also survived by his sisters, Frances Armijo and Lorrie Hernandez, and his beloved uncle Tranquilino Barela. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: David Sanchez, Alex Barela, Toby Sanchez, Eugenio Sanchez, and Tito Sanchez. Florencio will be interred at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery and Funeral Home. A mass will be held at 10AM on October 6th at Saint Helen Catholic Parish where he was an active and dedicated member. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 8th at the Halle Heart Children's Museum in Tempe, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Phoenix Rescue Mission, who much like Florencio, helps people every day.
