Alekson, Gedmin Anthony "Al"
With his family by his side "Al" Alekson passed away peacfully on April 14, 2011 in Phoenix, AZ. Born in Detroit, MI on March 28, 1928 to Antanas and Veronica Alekson. He grew up with his sister and lived in Detroit until enlisting with U. S. Air Force, stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona serving from 1948-1952. While serving, "Al" met his bride-to-be Martha Lee Ayer on a blind date in 1951. They were married in 1952 at the Luke Air Force Base Chapel. "Al" was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, who passed away in 2003. He is survived by his sister Elenor and brother-in-law Stanley Roman, his children; Ray and Kathryn Alekson, daughter-in-law Kathleen, grandchildren; Jesse Defer, Maureen, Nathan and Stephen Alekson, granddaughters-in-law Heather Alekson and Elysia Radke, and great-grandchildren; Tyler Doege, Alexa, Cooper, and Kayden Alekson. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 6-8 pm with Rosary at 7pm at A.L. Moore Grimshaw, 710 West Bethany Home Rd. Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be held at Saints Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th. Phoenix, on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 W.
