Gene S. Trausch Obituary
Trausch, Gene S.
a native of Phoenix, passed away September 14, 2013 at the age of 89. He grew up on Baseline Road in South Phoenix on the family owned citrus groves. He attended Roosevelt Grade School and Phoenix Union High. A World War II veteran, he served in the Air Force and flew a C-47 aircraft, transporting paratroopers to strategic locations. Following the war and study at Phoenix College, he enrolled in dental school and graduated with degrees in Dentistry from University of Missouri Kansas City and Orthodontics from Northwestern University. He returned to Phoenix with his wife Margaret and first two daughters to begin his orthodontics practice. During his career, he passed a rigorous examination to become certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Bernice and his older brothers Burton and Lester. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 65 years, four daughters, Debra (William) Thornburg, Janice (Seth) Elan, Lori (Bill) Olin, Diane (Jedd) Nelson, sister Joan (Bill) Sawyer, sister-in-law Virginia, and grandchildren Kasey, Nicholas, Kyndal, Kate, Tamra, Kirk and Lindsey. Always an advocate of animal and wildlife protection and preservation, Gene spent much of his free time exploring the diverse habitats of Arizona. He especially delighted in the rugged terrain of the Kofa Mountains, where he loved hiking in pursuit of a glimpse of the elusive Desert Bighorn Sheep. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Arizona Wildlife Federation, PO Box 51510, Mesa, AZ 85208. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, September 22, 10 AM at A.L. Moore - Grimshaw, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd, Phoenix. Interment private.
