Skilling, Gerald Gene
was born November 13, 1929 in Algona, Iowa. After graduating from high school he served in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1953. He married Mary (Bonnie) Shillington September 5, 1953. He graduated from the University of South Dakota-Vermillion, receiving his Master's Degree in Education in 1958. In 1961 he accepted a teaching and coaching position with Marion Independent School District retiring in 1991. In 2007 he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. After retiring they settled in Surprise, Arizona. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary, 3 children; son Terry and his wife Doreen of Prairie Village, Kansas, daughter Kim and husband Keith Laszczak of Cape Coral, Florida, and son Michael and wife Wendi, from Overland Park, Kansas. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Bryan (Monica) Skilling, Joseph (Tobi) Laszczak, Ben (Ali) Skilling, Kristina (Ty) Gordon, Carter and Hayden Pembridge, 4 great-grandchildren Connor and Hudson Skilling, Konrad Laszczak, Joseph Gordon, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am, January 23, 2016 at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, Surprise, Az.
