Lt. Col. Gerald Lawrence Dwyer Obituary
Dwyer, Lt. Col. Gerald Lawrence (retired)
91, a 44-year resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2015. "Jerry" was born on October 29, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, and led a courageous life, full of adventure, national pride, and self-sacrifice. A highly decorated pilot, Jerry served his country with distinction in the U.S. Air Force throughout World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Following his 28-year military career (which took him to more than 50 countries ranging from Morocco to Greenland), he retired to Arizona where he shared his powerful love for learning and exploration with his family. Never slowing down, his annual cross-country road trips to the family cabin in Minnesota - while visiting natural and cultural sites throughout most of the U.S. states - gave the family unforgettable experiences and a lifelong love for travel. Jerry's intense engineering precision, keen financial vision, and passion for his 2 classic Volkswagens will always be remembered, in addition to his sharp wit and subtle sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Ann, and his son, John, and is survived by his daughters Kathryn and Colleen, and son Gerald, Jr. Private services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
