Aster, Gerard "Jerry" F.
78, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on September 17, 2016. He was killed in a tragic jet ski accident on the Indian River Bay, Long Neck, DE while visiting family. Mr. Aster was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Francis Joseph Aster and the late Rita Mary Flint (nee Gable). He attended Southeast Catholic High School for Boys, then served in the United States Navy from 1956-1962, when he was honorably discharged. Mr. Aster raised his family primarily in Hunterdon County, NJ prior to retiring to Phoenix in 1994. He spent his entire career in Management, Sales & Marketing with AT&T Corporation. Upon moving to Arizona, Mr. Aster became a dedicated public servant, including a long tenure on Maricopa County's Planning and Zoning Commission. Mr. Aster was an avid hiker, enjoyed golf and other outdoor activities. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Aster Bowers (Jeffrey) of Lititz, PA, and Melanie Aster of New Orleans, LA; his granddaughter, Ellen Funk of Lititz, PA; his nephew, Brian Aster, and niece, Susan Aster Morgan (Eric), both of Wilmington, DE. A burial service was held on September 24, 2016 at River View Cemetery in Portland, OR, beside the grave of his beloved son, Mark Aster, a former USN Lt. and Naval Aviator. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 330 N. Coral Gables Dr., Phoenix. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (www.pdf.org) in memory of Mr. Aster's late brother, Robert Joseph Aster.
