Gim "Poy" Lee Obituary
Lee, Gim "Poy"
Gim "Poy" Lee, 84, of Scottsdale, passed away on August 12, 2016. He was born in Canton, China in 1932 to Soon Ark Lee and Joke Ming Yee. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Gim "Jim" Lee and Gim "Bill" Lee. He is survived by his 5 children, Chris & Heather Lee, Jenny & Stuart Carnie, and Melissa Lee; his 7 grandchildren, Sydney, Marina, Sophia, Cameron, Aliah, Sienna and Hayden; and his ex-wife and great friend, Maureen Hamilton. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and in-laws, and best buddy Mike O'Donnell. He immigrated to the US at a young age, first living in Colorado. After high school, he served in the US Army during the Korean War as an interrogator. He moved to Scottsdale in the 60s to open Trader Vic's. In 1973, he opened the very successful Glass Door Restaurant with co-workers from Trader Vic's and worked there until its closure in 1995. He last worked at the Phoenix Country Club before retiring to take care of grandchildren. His amazing meals and propensity for a good party will be sorely missed. He enjoyed cooking for everyone. Visitation and Rosary will be held at Messinger Mortuary Weds, Aug 17 at 6 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale, Aug 18 at 10 am.
