Grace Ann Gilreath Obituary
Gilreath, Grace Ann
Grace Ann Gilreath, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), 73, passed away on April 15, 2016. Grace was born in Newark, Ohio on February 19, 1943, the only child of Weldon and Dorothy Hickey. She was active in 4-H Club, Girl Scouts and a school cheerleader. She was also a yearly teenage volunteer (Candy Striper) at the local hospital. This led her to a distinguished career in medicine! She received her early nursing training at Grant Hospital in Columbus, OH. After graduation, she then went to Cincinnati, OH to complete nurse anesthesia instructions at Capital University. From there she worked as a CRNA at Passavant Hospital in Chicago. She was then accepted for further anesthesia education at Boston Children's Hospital Medical Center. There she had the unique opportunity to work with Dr. Robert M. Smith, renowned anesthesiologist for infants and children. Dr. Smith commended "her unbeatable combination of enthusiasm and ability". During her career, she was especially skilled in handling babies. She was often asked by her peers to give anesthesia to their infants that needed surgery. A true testament to her skills! Her relatives on both sides love her dearly. She made many lasting friends in her life. She sent more than 200 Christmas cards each year, and many birthday cards each month. She is survived by her husband Gil, son Robert, stepson Tony, and stepdaughter Tracey, four brother-in-law's James, Clarence, Ernest and Raymond, sister-in-law Marian, cousins Jeannie, Shawn, Mark, Tim, Kelli, Dave, and Janie. She made a distinct impression on all who knew her. She is so loved and sorely missed! In lieu of cards and flowers, please send donations to the Arizona Humane Society.
