Guadalupe M. Medina Obituary
Medina, Guadalupe M.
April 17th 1937 - November 1st 2016. Guadalupe "Lupe" M. Medina passed away November 1st 2016, he is survived by his wife of 55 years Sylvia Villaverde Medina. He is also survived by his children Catherine Medina, Paul Medina, Andrea Medina Carbine, Jonathan Medina, Matthew Medina and his wife Patricia, his grandchildren Chris Medina, Parker Medina, Alec Carbine, Alexis Carbine, Analy Carbine, Tristan Medina, Kaleb Medina, Felicia Smith Medina, Joshua Medina and Catie Medina. He is preceded in death by his sister Florence Lind and is survived by his sisters Mary Medina, Valentina Bustoz and husband Alberto Bustoz as well as his sister Isabel Apodaca. Guadalupe came from very humble beginnings; he was born to immigrant parents and grew up in Glendale Arizona. After graduating 8th grade, he began work as a farm laborer to help provide for his family. Guadalupe always a believer in education obtained his GED as a young father of 25. He served as a reservist in the Army National Guard, he enrolled in an apprentice program for cement masons and became an accomplished tradesman. He had an analytic mind and his favorite reading materials were publications concerning finance and the stock market. He would later along with his partner, Gloria Barnes, purchase the company he was working for and that was the beginning of G&G Concrete Specialists Inc. He eventually bought out Gloria, and established what is now known as GMS Concrete Specialist, Inc., a strong family business that has been in operation for over 30 years. He was a Junior Chamber of Commerce member for the City of Glendale, and was instrumental in organizing the first Fourth of July fireworks show at Glendale Community College. He was awarded the Jaycee Key Man Award in 1964 for this and other efforts. Most recently he was honored with the Caesar Chavez award by the City of Glendale in 2011 for promoting diversity. To Lupe family was of utmost importance and he instilled this in his children and grandchildren, this belief also guided him in his business operations to include the employees' families of GMS Concrete Specialist Inc. He quietly performed random acts of generosity and kindness to individuals and organizations throughout his life. He has left an indelible mark on us and our world, anyone who met him, was greeted with a genuine smile. His presence will be deeply missed, his love and commitment and integrity will remain with us always. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and or Saint Mary's Food Bank.
