94, of Mesa passed away on Jan. 27th at
after a couple of years decline. His wife, Maxine, and many of his family were with him. He was born near Centerville, Iowa on Oct., 12, 1918 to Dwight and Linnie Hughes. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wayne. He is survived by his wife Maxine (Maggie) , 3 sons, Larry, Charles, and Bill, 2 step-sons, Tom Bown and John Bown, two brothers, Raymond in Des Moines, Iowa and Glenn, in South Carolina, a sister, Marjorie Smith in Corydon, Iowa, twelve grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was a businessman who owned and operated his own appliance and electrical service store in Iowa. When he moved to Mesa, Arizona, he was associated with the O. S. Stapley Hardware Store, finally becoming its manager. He proudly served his country in the Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Harold and Maxine both loved golf and travel. They enjoyed motorhoming to all 50 states plus Canada and upper Mexico. They also traveled to the British Isles, Holy Lands, Egypt, New Zealand, China, Fiji and the Hawaiian Islands. They enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Powell and many of the lakes in Arizona. They spent 19 summers at their summer home in Show Low. Harold's health caused them to move to Fellowship Square, 6945 East Main Street, in Mesa.
