Johnke, Harold (Bud) F.
Harold F. Johnke, 95, died Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Grandview Care Center, Sun City West, Arizona. He was born on March 19, 1920 in Lennox, South Dakota, the son of Frank and Talka (Groen) Johnke. After his mother's death, Bud was raised by his mother's sisters, Annie and Etta Groen. On January 13, 1945 he was married to the love of his life, Kathryne Marie Nossaman. Marie preceded Bud in death on October 8, 2003. Bud was inducted into the Army as a Private on August 3, 1942. He received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant on December 6, 1944 and served on active duty until July 4, 1946. Bud graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in Business Administration, major in Accounting. Following his graduation, he accepted a position with a public accounting firm in Des Moines, Iowa and received his Certificate as a Certified Public Accountant from the State of Iowa. After five years he left public accounting and joined the Treasurer's staff of Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa. He held a number of administrative accounting positions retiring as the Corporate Director of Internal Auditing. He also served as a Director of the Company's Credit Union for 24 years, 18 of which as the Treasurer. He was a charter member of the Des Moines chapter of the National Association of Internal Auditors serving as its Vice President and President. Bud was an avid reader and while not a golfer; in his later years he enjoyed watching the golfers negotiate a par 3 hole from his condominium. Survivors include his daughter, Donna (David) McLaughlin, Rhinelander, WI; two grandchildren, Robert (Jacinda) McLaughlin, WI and Geoffrey McLaughlin, WI; and two great grandchildren, Marisa and Gavin McLaughlin, WI. Military rites will be conducted at the Sunland Mortuary, Sun City, AZ on Monday, September 21, 2015 followed by a Memorial Service at the Desert Palms Presbyterian church at 2:30 PM. Coffee and cookies will be served immediately following the Memorial Service. All are invited.
