Hazel Ruth Starmer

Obituary Condolences

Starmer, Hazel Ruth
of Scottsdale passed away peacefully at the age of 99 on October 16, 2015. She was one of six children born to Robert and Leona Young of LaPorte, Indiana. It was in LaPorte where she met the love of her life Elbridge Starmer. After marring they briefly moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan while Elbridge served active military duty. The couple then moved back to LaPorte after WWII and eventually onto Indianapolis before moving to Scottsdale in 1972. Hazel loved Arizona and was very active collecting antiques and swimming. She was well known as a skillful bridge player who enjoyed playing card games with her friends and family. Hazel was an avid knitter, making baby hats and booties for her grandchildren and for the newborns at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital. She spent many years working with her sister in a family owned business in Old Town Scottsdale, McQ's Children's Western Wear. She is survived by her seven children, Ralph, Rodney, Richard, Ruth Mary Halladay, Roberta Bay, Ronald, Randall and their spouses, nineteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two sisters and terrific friends. Her secret to living such a full and robust life, was getting up each day with a smile on her face, challenging her mind, keeping up with current world events, and exercising by walking around her neighborhood every day. She will be missed by all those she has touched. A celebration honoring her life will be arranged in the near future. In
lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Reflections Hospice and Palliative Care, 1840 E. University, Mesa, AZ 85203. Arrangements were entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
