Helen Margaret Daly Obituary
Daly, Helen Margaret Wason
92, of Tempe passed away Friday May 27, 2016. She was born in 1923 in Greenwich, Connecticut and graduated from Greenwich High School. She graduated from the Salem Nursing School and joined the Boston City Hospital nursing staff. In April 1945 she was accepted to the Army Nurses Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the 4th General Hospital in June. She shipped out to the Pacific just weeks before the end of the war aboard the Army Hospital Ship Charles A. Stafford, and spent her service time in the Philippines and occupied Tokyo. She returned to nursing in California and New York, before marrying Dalton Daly of Larchmont, N.Y. in 1950. She started a family that grew to five and returned to school to earn a B.S. in Nursing from NYU. She moved to Tempe in 1964 and worked for Tempe Community Hospital and Maricopa County Health Services before taking her last job with Indian Health Services, working mostly at Sacaton on the Gila River Indian Reservation, retiring in 1988. She led a life punctuated by public service; balancing the needs of her parents and a young family with her dedication to her work and continuing education. She loved movies, travel, friends, dancing, and laughter. She leaves behind her humor, her wit, and the inspiration to pursue knowledge and help others. She is survived by her children: Jean Acedo, Nancy Daly, Christopher Daly, John Daly, and Carolin Daly, along with five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Friday June 3rd, 2016 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 2121 S. Rural Rd. Tempe, AZ 85282.
