Howard Abel, Jr., 83, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away July 20, 2006 in Phoenix. Howard was born Jan. 11, 1923 in Corydon, Iowa, graduating from Centerville High School. He moved to Davenport in his early twenties where he met and later married Betty Mae O'Dette on May 3, 1944. The couple made their home in Davenport where Howard owned and operated grocery stores. Betty Mae passed away in 1995, and in 1998 Howard moved to Phoenix to be near his son James and wife Gina. Other survivors include his 3 granddaughters, Jaycie, Jordan and Jade Abel all of Phoenix. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Tempe Mortuary, 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, AZ Graveside services will be held at Davenport Memorial Park, 1022 E. 39th St., Davenport, IA, under the direction of the Weerts Funeral Home.
