68, of Tempe, AZ. Gail Youngblood of Tempe died peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2013, of complications of multiple myeloma. She was born in Charlotte, NC, on January 12, 1945. Gail graduated from Hermitage High School in Richmond, VA, in 1963, and Virginia Commonwealth University, receiving a B.A. in elementary education in 1968. She also earned an M.A. in education from the University of Michigan in 1970. While at Michigan, she met her husband Robert Youngblood of Coos Bay and Medford, OR. Following graduation, she and Bob were married in Manila, Philippines. They moved to Tempe in 1973 where Gail taught elementary school, first at Evans Elementary School in Tempe and then for more than 20 years at Emerson Elementary School in Mesa. Gail loved teaching young children and had many wonderful experiences while at Evans and Emerson. Those who knew Gail feel lucky that she walked among us. She taught by example about the beauty of life, the power of personal courage, and most of all the sanctity of family. She bore life's burdens with dignity, grace, and common sense. With admiration, love, and gratitude for the inspiration and dreams she gave all whom she touched, we say goodbye. Gail is survived by her husband Bob of Tempe; son Erik, daughter-in-law Aimee, and two grandsons, Ian and Owen, who were a constant joy to her, of Englewood, CO; daughter Ingrid and son-in-law Jaime of Howard, CO; brother Daryl and sister-in-law Nancy and their children: Joel, Erin, and Anneke, of Lake Butler, FL. A memorial service will be held at Dayspring United Methodist Church, 1365 East Elliot Road, Tempe, AZ, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a remembrance to the multiple myeloma research foundation.
