Ellicott, J. Thomas (Tom)
88, of Paradise Valley passed away on March 24, 2016. Tom was born June 15, 1927, in Baltimore, Md. He served in the Navy in 1945 and 1946 and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1950, where he played varsity lacrosse and soccer and was on the inter-fraternity cross country and track teams. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Tom went on to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Law. He married Mary Katherine Annan of Baltimore in 1956 and began his career as a Maryland magistrate judge. He became Maryland president of the Young Democrats in 1957. Tom later continued his education in real estate appraisal, receiving his MBA in 1970 and joining Berens & Co. Mortgage Banking overseeing its Florida operations. He relocated to Phoenix in 1978 with Weyerhaeuser Mortgage and later joined Sutter Trust as manager of residential construction. Tom married Marjorie Christianson in 1981. He established the Ellicott Living Trust Center in 1990 and wrote trusts for clients until his retirement. Tom loved sports, especially tennis, which he played for many years at the Village Tennis Club. He also played golf at his beloved Mountain Shadows Golf Club. Tom is survived by Marge, his loving wife of 35 years; his son J. Thomas Ellicott Jr. (Kevin) of Atlanta; and stepchildren Jeffrey Christianson (Cathy) of Cave Creek, Sharon Mattern (Hal) of Phoenix, Leslie Smith of Laguna Beach, Calif., and Douglas Smith of Paradise Valley. Tom is pre-deceased by his daughter, Jocelyn Ellicott. A family service was held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to .
