Porto, Jahala Hall
87 of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on January 25, 2016. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Hala, as she was known to family and friends, was born on August 30, 1928, the second of four children to Fred Willis and Elizabeth Emma (Nutter) Hall in Damariscotta, Maine. She was predeceased by her siblings Fred Hall, Marilyn Smith, and Sara "Sally" Renkavitz. The Hall family had roots dating back to the Mayflower. When Hala was a teenager, her family moved to Milford Connecticut where she met C. Robert "Bob" Porto. They married on September 6, 1947 at St. Mary's. They raised their sons, Joseph and Robert, in Milford then moved to Raymond Maine in 1980. After reirement Hala and Bob moved to Brookton ME, spending summers in Maine and winters in Mesa AZ. Hala remained in Mesa for the past eight years. Hala had a radiant smile and a loving spirit. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, cooking, volunteering in the community, and exploring the world by travelling with her husband and friends. Hala and Bob welcomed their nieces and nephews as well as their children to the lake in Maine for many happy times fishing, rowing, playing, and laughing. They treated their nieces and nephews with the love of grandparents. Jahala is survived by her son Robert J Porto (Crystal); grandson Anthony Porto; sister in laws Helene Hall, MaryAnn Boufford and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 60 years, and son Joseph Porto. Funeral service will be held on January 30, 2016, at 3pm at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park in Mesa, Arizona. Mariposa Gardens is entrusted with arrangements.
