Nelson, James William
James (Jim) William Nelson passed away peacefully at his home in Phoenix Arizona unexpectedly September 5th, while being with the family he loved (his long-time partner Brenda Nelson and her immediate family). Jim was preceded in death by his father, John W. (Johnny) Nelson, mother, Irene C. Wiksten Nelson, sister, Mary Jean Nelson Swanson sister, Carol Ann Nelson. Jim is survived by, brother, John G. (Jerry) Nelson and sister, Dianna Lynn Nelson Kent. Jim was born September 16, 1948. He attended Rush City, Minnesota schools and graduated in 1966. Jim was drafted and served in Vietnam. After his discharge he attended Dunwoody Broadcasting School in Minneapolis, Minnesota and did radio and sports announcing in Minnesota, Colorado and Montana. Jim tried several professions until he found the right one for him and the right life-time partner and married Brenda Hemphill in Las Vegas, Nevada. They built a home and fulfilled many of their dreams. Later, they were inspired by Brenda's passion to help children succeed in their education where they created a charter school and he served on the corporate board. Jim began working for a law firm and after 20 successful years, he retired at the age of 65. Jim and Brenda were very dedicated to the school and their work. They spent most of their leisure time enjoying their beautiful home and Jim's singing because he loved music and singing. Since Jim's retirement he had several medical issues and was hindered by PTSD. He was being treated by several doctors and the VA medical system. Jim is being honored for his military service with a private ceremony by the `Veterans of Vietnam of Arizona.
