Garland, Jeanne Lusby
passed on peacefully with her four kids around her on September 19, 2013. She was born on a date ranch in Indio, California on December 11, 1925 to Emory and Adalaide Lusby. They moved to Phoenix in 1936 where she attended Kenilworth Elementary and then Phoenix Union High School during the four years of WWII. During this time she had been one of the top swimmers in the U.S. She attended University of Arizona, graduating with a degree in Fine Arts. Here she met her future husband, Robert Garland. They married in 1948 and raised four children in the Arcadia area. In 1968, she and Bob opened the first of five Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour Restaurants in Arizona. Her first love was her family but her passion and incredible talent were in her artwork. She was prolific with her oil painting, but she was also known for her Santa gourds and painted furniture. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed her many years of playing with her friends at Arizona Country Club. She had been a member of the P.E.O. and also served in the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grand and great grandmother, aunt and friend to so many, and she will be missed. She is predeceased by her husband, Bob, her brother, Clary Lusby, her sister, Diane Culton, and her grandson, Sam Garland. She is survived by her children, Susie Garland, Betsy (Phil) Lovell, Dick Garland, Bob Garland, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family held a private memorial service in her honor on September 21. Condolences may be sent to 10645 N. Tatum Blvd #C200-188, Phoenix, AZ 85028.
