Jim Benington Obituary
Bennington, Jim
was born in Forest Twp., St. Croix County, Wisconsin on September 17, 1924 to Charles Abner Bennington and Emma Freseth. He served in the Navy from 1943-1946 and then went to Stout College in Menomonie, WI on the GI Bill. Jim married Arlis Mae Harrison in 1946. He taught welding and general metal instruction at a vocational high school in Watertown, WI until 1958. He had seen an article in Coronet magazine about foreign aid programs, and on a whim, applied. He was very surprised when they called him back. There were over 17000 applicants and less than 25 were called. He joined the foreign service and served in the Agency for International Development in Tegucigalpa, Honduras as an Industrial Education Advisor and also in Recife, Brazil and in Vietnam as Province Development Officer and Area Reconstruction and Resettlement Officer until retiring in 1975. Afterwards they spent their time travelling, finally settling in Surprise, Arizona in 1995. They had five children: Janna Larson of Scottsdale, AZ; Mary Beth Allan of Maryborough, Queensland, Australia; Michael (deceased), formerly of Ponder, TX; Joe of Bend, OR; and Lisa Skay of Tucson, AZ. Jim passed away December 22, 2015 in Phoenix, AZ. His wife, Arlis survives him.
